Seating designed with such flair and dream is pure
decadence.
The discovery of how to use metal was one of man's greatest achievements. The Iron Age brought with it stronger and sharper swords, chariots strengthened for battle, helmets and shields. It brought with it jewellery and ornaments of such detail and craftsmanship, never before discovered. Jewels, brooches, bracelets, mirrors, candlesticks and heavily adorned tankards all portray a movement towards a certain decadence in life. Remains of iron statuettes and dancers tell us that the iron age people loved to dance an make music. The standard of workmanship and design in their ornaments shows that they had craftsmen with a feeling for art. The movement of the metal caught in some of the pieces shows that early stages of design and art was evolving. For the first time, craftsmen had a material that they could manipulate and shape into anything they wanted. Only unique pieces were found. Nothing was exactly duplicated because everything was made entirely by hand. These pieces are even now used as basics for contemporary design. Wrought iron was a material they found a pleasure to work with...........we still do.
