Danes Hill School

SPORTS & ACTIVITIES

Participation by All

All children participate in timetabled sporting activity and are expected to represent the School competitively when selected to do so. A full programme of sporting fixtures is arranged with other schools' and Danes Hill teams also enter the major IAPS tournaments as well as other local and national sporting competitions.

Annual tours to different parts of the country and abroad add a further dimension to the .busy sporting lives of many pupils. The School is fortunate in having extensive playing fields, four tennis courts, a twenty five metre covered swimming pool and a multi-purpose hall which provides facilities for gymnastics, judo and other indoor sports.

The principal games played are rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, track-and field, soccer, rounders and tennis. Specialist swimming coaches ensure that from the earliest age our boys and girls feel at home in the water. Most children can swim competently by the age of six.

Activities

An enormous variety of societies, groups and clubs meet during the week. Many are permanent fixtures. Some can be more transitory, reflecting the particular enthusiasms and skills of individual members of staff. Some cater for boys or girls looking for more sedentary pursuits, others for those with energy to spare. All help to provide that breadth of experience which will be so important in evaluating options and choices in years to come.

Variety
Regularly on offer are the following: chess (Danes Hill players have a reputation that inspires terror in prep schools and clubs across the country!), sailing (Danes Hill hosts the IAPS regatta), needlework, volley-ball, horseriding, drama and public speaking, debating, dry-skiing, golf, archery, model-making, judo, tennis, rambling, cross-country running, science club, first aid and squash.

The library is open every day and several school magazines to which the children contribute are published during the year.
