The Form Teacher continues to play a central role in
every child's daily routine and provides an initial reference point for parents
should any problems arise.
Heads of Sections
Each section has its own Head who is responsible to the Headmaster for the
day-to-day management of the children in his or her care, and the identity of
each section is strengthened by its own corporate activities. Staff from each
section meet regularly to monitor the welfare and progress of each girl and
boy.
Happy Children
Form Teachers and, in the case of older pupils, Personal Tutors have
responsibility for the social and emotional needs of children in their care.
The School's Pastoral Care programme is managed by the Deputy-Head (Pastoral
Care) who also liaises with outside agencies to help children at times of
emotional stress.
Special Needs
We have a qualified special Needs Department for the small percentage of
children who do not seem to fulfil their academic potential. They screen
children with apparent learning problems and maintain close links with the
Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre so that prompt remedial action can be
taken.
THE DANES HILL DAY
Following 8.30am registration a daily Assembly provides a
quiet focus for the start of the school day. Worship is based on Christian
traditions but is undenominational in character. Emphasis is placed on Assembly
as a forum for highlighting the achievements of boys and girls over a wide
range of activities.

A Healthy Diet
Lunch is prepared in our own kitchens with younger pupils eating together while
a cafeteria system operates for the older children. Careful attention is paid
to nutritional value and balance, as well as to tempting the appetite.
Vegetarian or special diets are easily catered for and a strategically
positioned observer is always on hand to encourage the over-selective palate
not to let its owner go hungry! During the mid-afternoon break all pupils are
able to top up with a light afternoon tea.
Prep and Home
School ends at 3.30pm for the 6 year olds, at 4.00pm for the Middle School and
4.30pm for the upper School. There are optional supervised afternoon prep
sessions from 4.30 - 5.30pm. Sufficient time on prep is thus assured and
harmonious relations are free to prevail at home!
