Danes Hill School

SCHOOL AIMS

A Centre of Excellence

Education for chioce

Danes Hill prepares children for entry to senior schools (girls 11, 12 or 13: boys at 13) and aims at the highest standards both in academic studies and extra-curricular activities. Over the years Danes Hill pupils have excelled academically with scholarships to senior schools averaging 10 a year .Many more have gained honours in sporting, musical, artistic and dramatic spheres. The school enters all of its pupils for the National Curriculum Key Stage One and Two tests (S.A.T.s) and obtains outstanding results.

Education for Choice
The School aims not only to establish the academic foundations on which senior schools can build but also to nurture and develop in its pupils those qualities which will help them meet the demands that life today increasingly makes upon them. In particular we believe that we are educating our pupils today for the choices that they will be making tomorrow. It is therefore our constant aim to introduce our boys and girls to the widest possible range of activities, skills and experience. They can then move on from Danes Hill confident and well-equipped to make the early choices that will shape their future lives. It is this breadth and variety of activity that is one of the School's hallmarks.

Tolerance

Although not in any strict sense denominational, the School is in the Christian tradition - a fellowship in which each member is expected to treat others with tolerance and respect and, under guidance, to learn and practise the self-discipline without which members of a community cannot be fulfilled.

Endeavour
Boys and girls are encouraged to take the fullest possible part in every sphere of school life, aiming to do their best at all times while learning that however much individual gifts and talents may vary, all honest endeavour is worthwhile. Fundamental too, however, is that we should seek to identify particular activities at which each boy and girl can excel.

The Best of Both Worlds

While enjoying their own separate sites, Bevendean and the Main School share certain facilities and work hand-in-hand to provide a secure continuum for the development of their pupils. Nevertheless, each site has its own identity and corporate life including special annual events such as concerts, sports and open days.

The Pre-Preparatory School
There are at present about 280 children in the Pre-Prep School which has its own Head, responsible to the Headmaster for the day-to-day running of the section and for continuity in the curriculum. The Pre-Prep encompasses both Bevendean and the first year in Main School.

The Preparatory School
The Preparatory School has around 500 pupils and is divided into two sections: the Middle (7- 10 years) and the Upper (10-13 years), each unit overseen by a Head of Section and a closely-knit pastoral team.
